I was actually going to boycott the idea of selling this mix-tape but after going back and forth with @kayodea on twitter I had to reason alongside his vital points. He pointed out that selling mix-tapes on the Nigeria music scene could be the next big thing for Nigerian artists and regardless of how eLDee does on this mix-tape sales wise; his name would certainly go down in the history book as the artist that set the trend of selling mix-tape on the music scene.

My argument still stands though; will Nigerians buy mix-tapes when only a tiny fraction of us buy albums? I will leave that for the discussion boards and forums – the purpose of this post is to support eLDee.

Soyinka’s Afro – Death of The Skip Button [Mixtape]

The mix-tape that I have been making so much noise about on twitter is here. And having listened to it in its entirety I think the production is top-notch and I am not saying that because the audio engineer behind this project is a good friend but because the production on each of the songs are sleek.

The compositional work of the mix-tape is cool – very soulfully funky instrumental pieces blended with Naija flavor which makes it sound like some great library records that took a great deal of time to put together. My rating would be 3/5 because there is still room for improvement for these first timers. In all I think they have a shot at this…cop it and spread the word. Shout out to David Evans & GidiLounge Team.
