Our very own Dro Ameh sat down with H-Man via Instant Messenger and they robbed minds together to talk about who he is, when he started making music, his album that is scheduled for release on the 15th of April, 2009 – who he worked with on the album and his plans for the future.
1. Name/Age/Hometown
Okeke Humphrey O are my names. I’m only 24years old from Obowo LGA in Imo State.
2. Who is H-Man?
H-Man is just one simple music addict who who is more concerned with messages and contents of songs than rhythm. He is very much a quite guy but crazy on stage. Called a crusader by friends because of the kind of music he loves doing.
3. Before you got into music ,what were you doing?
Before I got into music, I was doing my undergraduate study at Igbinedion University Okada which I combined with a small business.
4. What brought about the name “H-Man”?
The name H-MAN was given to me by my university friends when I said I was gonna do music probably out of mockery. And for me H-MAN simply means Humphrey is a man.
5. How did you get into music? And what label are you currently signed on and what firm are you working with?
Ok, it was back then in 2005 when I couldn’t stand not to do music that I enjoyed in my secondary school days, I did a little runs on my parents to get money then. Then I left school for Lagos with Soso’s number that I got from Nigga Raw’s first album cover. Got to Lagos, did some jobs with Soso. Later move on to work with Snowzy that produced Konga and later finally met and settled with the CODED TUNES which included 9ice, Ajasa, 2phat, etc but headed by Id Cabasa. Did couple of tracks then but was not able to promote them because of lack of fund. But right now I own my own record label called LONE records under which projects are handled.
6.What would you call the highlight of your career as an artiste?
Personally I would say the highlight of my career is yet to come. So many good things are yet to come. So, for me, I have not started.
7. It has come to our notice that you are working on an album,What is the title and when is it dropping?
Yeah, I was working on an album which I’m already done with. It is titled Ndoli Ndoli.
8.Additional information you would what to let us know about the album and plans for it, like listening party and all?
Well, the album is set to drop on the 15th of April with a pre-release press conference that is scheduled to hold on the 14th at Protea Hotel Ikeja.
9. Any insight into what the content might look or sound like?
Personally, I always describe the album as a message to nations and emotions because it is basically about life, love, situations and struggle. So the album is for everybody both young and old.
10. What do you think separates you from other musician around at the moment?
Basically, I feel the difference between other artists and I is originality.
11. Who did you listen to growing up? & Who are you listening to today?
I can remember always listening to Micheal Jackson while growing up but now I listen to 2face and Asa.
12. Do you have a favourite Nigerian track?
Right now, my favourite Nigerian track is “Jailer” by Asa.
13.what was it like working with M.I. on the “Thank You” track? Who do you look at featuring on the album?
It was actually accidental. M.I. came into the studio while I was recording the track. I had to push him into the boot to take part. Already, I have a duet with 9ice, one with Id Cabasa e.t.c.
“H-Man ft. M.I. – Thank You”
